. napa35, san francisco 46, san jose 37 degrees. definitely off to a cold start this saturday morning. forecast headlines for today, shower developing, it'll be chilly. tomorrow just a chance of a few sprinkles and the highest chance would be in the north bay, especially up toward sonoma. we are tracking multiple storms on the long range weather maps. at least for today here is the system we are tracking, the sources rainfall around eureka. already cloud cover into the area and that rainfall not to far behind. here is the forecast model. we will take it into the morning about an hour from now at eight mostly cloudy and cool. temperatures from around 30 to 45 and then by the afternoon, by 12:00 showers developing especially up in the northern half of the area. you will see more activity off shore and then throughout the afternoon hours off and on showers likely and temperatures only making it into the low to mid50s. these numbers not a big change from yesterday in places like fairfield and antioch. most of the afternoon in the upper 40s. briefly topping out at 50. san jose 54, san mate

coming in below freezing now and it's been that way overnight. san francisco a little warmer at 41. but obviously, it is chilly everywhere you go. grab a jacket. by this afternoon, we are going to warm things up to about the low to mid-50s so similar to what we saw yesterday. we are going to see some sunshine but you will notice the temperatures are slightly below average for this time of year anywhere from two to actually about 7 degrees below average. in san jose. so we decided to send our reporter out cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran out in the freezing temperatures in san anselmo. okay, cate. weave frost on the windows and everything. >> reporter: we are in san anselmo where freezing temperatures will last until 8 a.m. some of last night's overnight temperatures were the coldest we have seen since january. last night it reached pleasanton and neighbors felt the chill in the air. >> we have layers on both the kids. we're good to go. the freezing temperatures won't be here long. we are expected to warm up and bring a little bit of rain as liz mentioned and that makes state water mana

and palo alto all increased school patrols. the san francisco schools already have resource officers. extra police or not schools across the bay area are also addressing tragedy in connecticut. cbs 5 reporter joe vazquez is in san francisco with a look at how local school districts are handling it. >> reporter: schools across the bay area have spent the day reassuring parents that, yes, they are doing everything they can to keep their children as safe as possible. it may be 3,000 miles away from the worst grade school shooting in american history but still, the mood here is somber. >> i think every parent is turning around and saying, i got to hug my kids that much tighter today. i got a text from a friend who said i drove straight from my son's preschool and gave him a hug and said, son, i love you. i want to let you know that. i think that's how every parent is feeling like horrible sadness for the families that are going through this and need to reconnect. >> reporter: san francisco schoolchildren were given paperwork for parents a guide on how to talk to children about the shooting. >>
